설날 Suhl Nal (Korean New Years)
ANNOUNCEMENTS + REMINDERS:
Please make sure that students bring their writing notebook and workbook (given on the first or second day of this second semester) to class every day! They should be taking it home every week as well.
There will be enrichment classes starting this upcoming week (02.17.24)! If your child is registered for an after-school class, they are to be picked up at those classrooms at 1:30PM.
WHAT WE DID IN CLASS:
- In class, we learned about Korean New Years, what kind of traditions there are, which foods they eat, the importance of the holiday, etc.
- We learned how to do 세배 (New Year's Bow) the correct way in class and showed that to our principals, we also got pocket money from them!
- Once again, we reviewed our vowels (아 야 어 여 오 요 우 유 으 이)
- We then learned a few consonants (ㅇ,ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, ㄹ, ㅁ, ㅂ) while playing games at the end of class (Next week, we will go more into learning these again).
- Along with vocabulary words that use include the 10 basic vowels and a few consonants:
오이 (oh-ee) cucumber
아이 (ah-ee) child
여우 (yuh-oo) fox
요요 (yoh-yoh) yoyo
우유 (ooh-yooh) milk
나비 (nah-bee) butterfly
고기 (goh-gee) meat
토마토 (toh-mah-toh) tomato
나라 반 (nah-rah-bahn) class Nara
- We played a game in groups of 3-5 people and practiced our teamwork, vocabulary, writing, and listening skills!

Down below are hangul (alphabet) that will be helpful during practice and homework:
vowels:
아 (ah), 야 (yah), 어 (uh), 여 (yuh), 오 (oh), 요 (yoh), 우 (ooh), 유 (yooh), 으 (euh), 이 (ee), 에 (eh), 애 (eh), 와 (wah).
